Citigroup VP, Relationship Manager - Life Sciences Group in San Francisco, California

We are seeking a Relationship Manager to join our growing Healthcare vertical within Citi’s Commercial Bank (CCB). This Relationship Manager will be part of the Life Sciences Group within the Emerging Corporates Group. Target market includes private and public emerging growth companies in the Medical Device, Tools & Diagnostics, Life Sciences, and Digital Health industry sub-segments.

Growth in this segment is based on a prudent and organized approach to client selection and capital allocation to ensure we are developing strong relationships with clients who seek Citi’s unique value proposition based on our global platform and sophisticated product set, including the investment banking advisory and asset management services.

This role will have primary responsibility for acquiring new commercial banking clients and deepening existing client relationships. The Relationship Manager is responsible for evaluating and meeting clients’ needs by efficiently utilizing the bank’s resources across the globe. They will work closely with partners in Cash Management, Capital Markets, FX Risk Mitigation, International Trade, Working Capital Management, and specialty lending to conduct in-depth analysis and propose customized solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Self-originate new business including the identification of target clients, proactive account planning, effective pipeline management, building & leading collaborative deal teams, leading on client & prospect pitching activity and executing transactions.

  • Maintain strong sales & self-origination disciplines, including direct calling/marketing, professional network referrals and sector influencer referrals.

  • Establish a strong understanding of our clients’ and prospects banking & financing needs, in particular how clients will benefit from Citi’s unique global offering across International Cash Management, Capital Markets, FX Risk Mitigation, International Trade & Treasury and Working Capital Management solutions. Partner with product specialists and pitch Citi’s value-add proposition to target clients.

  • Manage key client stakeholder relationships (CEO, CFO, Treasury) and bring the ‘whole bank’ to the client to ensure exceptional client service.

  • Develop and maintain strong ties with Citi’s Commercial Banking teams across the global network, in particular CCB colleagues working across the Healthcare sector vertical and CCB colleagues supporting subsidiary businesses overseas.

  • Represent CCB across the Healthcare sector, establishing a sales & marketing plan, attending events and leading on social media activity.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Citi's policies / guidelines at all time. Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of experience in Corporate Banking/Commercial Banking, preferably in the healthcare vertical.

  • Sound knowledge of commercial banking products

  • Proven track record in originating new relationships and acquiring new business. Excellent client relationship skills

  • Possess superior communication, interpersonal, and influence skills that facilitate successful client pitches and proposals

  • Strong quantitative/analytical skills

  • Formal credit training preferred

  • Experience working with different capital structures and capital markets teams preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree preferred

  • Must be able to secure and/or maintain licenses SIE, 79 and 63
