Uber Staff Engineer - Uber for Business, Guest Products in San Francisco, California

About the Role

We serve businesses across the globe on their transportation, delivery, and logistics needs and are a key strategic vector for Uber at large.

Within U4B, we are looking for a staff software engineer and tech lead for our Guest Products which include Vouchers, Health, Central, and Transit.

What the Candidate Will Do ----

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable and reliable backend systems for the Guest Product Teams

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, business development, sales, and drive technical vision to scale our product offerings

  • Drive continuous improvement in system architecture and operational excellence, with a focus on reliability, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability

  • Stay current with the latest technologies and industry trends, evaluating and integrating new tools and methodologies as appropriate.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the team.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience

  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, Go or similar.

  • Strong experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture

  • Min 8 years of Backend engineer experience

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  • Demonstrated experience shipping enterprise products at scale with quality and velocity

  • Demonstrated experience with product growth hacking

  • Demonstrated org wide leadership skills including mentorship, roadmap development, and technical vision

  • A strong personal sense of engineering craftsmanship and a track record of up-leveling their organization through mentorship, process, and culture improvements

  • Highly proficient coding in Golang or Java

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
