Uber Senior Staff Software Engineer - Driver Pricing in San Francisco, California

About the Role

This is a key role as a senior engineering leader in Driver pricing. The team is tasked with setting driver prices for Uber rides globally, using large scale distributed systems, algorithms and various machine learning models for optimization of network throughput and maximizing value/earnings for Uber drivers.

The role is to develop product features, system improvements, as well algorithmic optimizations of the business metrics with an end-to-end ownership mentality. Ideal candidate is someone who is well rounded and can use all tools at their disposal to own large projects end to end, and lead other engineers on the team.

Basic qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field AND 4-years full-time Software Engineering work experience

  • OR 7-years full-time Software Engineering work experience, WHICH INCLUDES 4-years total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)

  • Note the 4-years total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The years of specialized experience are not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated.

Technical skills:

  • Experience with large scale distributed systems

  • Experience in data intensive application development both online systems and offline pipelines

  • Experience in optimization systems and algorithmic or ML based optimization (such as ranking/recommendation systems, ads auction systems, etc)

  • Ability to optimize business outcomes using all tools available including machine learning, data engineering, system performance optimization, experimentation

Preferred qualifications:

  • Machine learning hands on experience is preferred, however deep ML knowledge is not required

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$252,000 per year - USD$280,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$252,000 per year - USD$280,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
