Jacobs Senior Software Engineer in San Francisco, California

The company applies proprietary machine-learning algorithms and data processing resources to measure travel patterns of vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians that enable complex transportation problem solving using analytics available on SaaS platform, StreetLight InSight®. Acquired by Jacobs as a subsidiary in February 2022, StreetLight continues to provide innovative digital solutions to help communities reduce congestion, improve safe and equitable transportation, and maximize the positive impact of infrastructure investment.

StreetLight Data is seeking a high caliber Sr. Software Engineer to be part of our amazing advanced Services team. StreetLight Services delivers cutting-edge transportation data, novel software tools, and insights to a growing list of global customers in combination with our industry-leading SaaS platform. This team member will work on both the frontend and backend of our advanced services products and prototypes that customers use. This position reports to Director of Services Engineering.

Location: Remote (or Hybrid if you live close to a Jacobs/StreetLight office) in the United States or Canada

What You'll Do:

  • Automate data processing procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy in delivering customized analytics.

  • Adapt and scale our core algorithms to handle metrics calculation for broader geographic scopes

  • Build and maintain APIs to enable access to common analyses

  • Design, implement, and maintain customer-facing features, including both frontend (React) and backend (Django/Postgres) components, in our Advanced Services offerings.

  • Prototype and iterate on feature concepts in collaboration with a wide range of team members.

  • Engineer high-quality software, including peer design, unit testing, and code reviews.

  • Collaborate with Data Science, Data Engineering, and Software Engineering teams to bring new metrics and techniques into the products.

  • BS / MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, or an Engineering discipline from a top university

  • 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer at a software product company, preferable in an enterprise market

  • Proficiency in Python, including familiarity with data-focused libraries such as pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and scikit-learn.

  • 3+ years of experience developing web-based SaaS applications

  • Experience with SQL databases (PostGIS or BigQuery would be a plus.)

  • Transportation industry experience or experience with geospatial programming is a strong plus.

  • Competence and interest in both frontend and backend web development

  • Product and customer orientation

  • Good communication skills - both written and verbal Quick learner, and a strong team player
