A day in the life

We are looking for a talented transactional attorney to lead a team supporting our rapidly growing and evolving Devices & Services business. The attorney and their team will work closely with business development, product, and go-to-market teams as counsel on strategic partnership deals across a variety of products, including Appstore distribution deals with major app developers, Fire TV integration deals with third-party device manufacturers, and inbound technology transactions for other Amazon products (such as e-Readers, Tablets, and Alexa products). The attorney will directly and through their team structure, draft, and negotiate a range of agreements, and counsel internal clients on various legal issues related to business operations. They will develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative, business-centric ways and build processes that address risk and allow the business flexibility and freedom to move quickly.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about technology, enjoys being continually challenged, and demonstrates sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.

Basic Qualifications

  • J.D. degree or international equivalent

  • 10+ years as a practicing attorney, with at least two of those years at a top national or international law firm

  • 5+ years of experience drafting and negotiating technology transactions, including software licenses

  • 2+ years of experience managing a legal team

  • Membership in good standing in at least one state bar

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior in-house experience at a technology or media company

  • A mix of law firm and in-house experience a plus

  • 8+ years of experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex software licensing and other commercial agreements in support of product development and launch

  • 5+ years of experience managing a legal team or organization

  • Technical background (computer science, electrical or mechanical engineering preferred), with strong knowledge of software and hardware development and design

  • Knowledge of the media space, including over-the-top (OTT) video streaming services and business trends

  • Ability to work independently while also contributing successfully to cross-functional teams

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through, and meet deadlines

  • Strong communication and analytical skills

  • Sound judgment even in ambiguous situations

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $146,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $272,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
