Meta Research Scientist - Generative AI in San Francisco, California

Summary:

Meta is seeking a Research Scientist to join our new Large Language Model (LLM) Research team. We are looking for recognized experts in generative AI and NLP, with experience in areas like language model evaluation; data processing for pretraining and fine-tuning; responsible LLMs; LLM alignment; reinforcement learning for language model tuning; efficient training and inference; and/or multilingual and multimodal modeling. The ideal candidate will have an interest in producing and applying new science to help us develop and deploy large language models.

Required Skills:

Research Scientist - Generative AI Responsibilities:

  1. Lead, collaborate, and execute on research that pushes forward the state of the art in large language model research.

  2. Directly contribute to experiments, including designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results.

  3. Work with a large and globally distributed team.

  4. Contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts.

  5. Help identify long-term ambitious research goals as well as intermediate milestones.

  6. Prioritize research that can be applied to Meta's product development.

  7. Mentor other team members. Play a significant role in healthy cross-functional collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  2. A PhD in AI, computer science, data science, or related technical fields.

  3. Experience holding an industry, faculty, or government researcher position.

  4. Publications in machine learning.

  5. Experience writing software and executing complex experiments involving large AI models and datasets.

  6. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

  7. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Direct experience in generative AI and LLM research.

  2. 2+ year(s) of work experience in a university, industry, or government lab, in a role with primary emphasis on AI research.

  3. First author publications experience at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL).

  4. Experience in developing and debugging in Python.

Public Compensation:

$117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
