U.S. Mint METAL FORMING MACHINE OPERATOR in San Francisco, California

Summary This position is located in the Production Division, Coining Section, Metal Forming Branch of the San Francisco Mint. Under the supervision of a MFMO Supervisor, incumbent is responsible for setting dies in appropriate automatic and manual presses, operating automatic and manual presses, and carefully preparing the blanks for the production of proof coins of various denominations or medals. Responsibilities This is an open continuous announcement. The open period is for 3 months. Applications will be reviewed on the established cut dates: 4/18/2024, 5/10/2024, 6/01/2024 and at the closing date (dates are subject to change). Non-Selected Applicants must update their application information to be considered for the next cut. The following are the duties of this position at the WG-8. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Operate coin press to stamp the images on the coins. Make careful inspection of the finished proof coins to assure that they meet exacting quality requirements. Keep alert to possible mechanical problems by observing instrument panels, listening for particular sounds, watching for overheating and similar observances and takes appropriate steps to prevent mechanical breakdown. Prepare blanks by washing in appropriate chemical solutions, drying, inspecting and setting up for pressing. Dry blanks with towels using extreme care to avoid damage to blanks and decides when they are in the proper condition for pressing. Requirements Conditions of Employment All employees must wear face masks while on MINT property when required by CDC and Federal guidelines. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Work schedules are 5:30 am - 3:00 pm or 2:00 pm - 11:30 pm. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work both shifts. May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position.
