Job Overview: Â

ÂThe Building Engineer

is responsible forensuring the structural integrity of the community, including plumbing, heating and cooling systems, and appliances. Deals with requestsin a timely mannerto ensure resident satisfaction. The schedule for this position is40 hoursper week with some weekend and holiday hours.Â

Compensation:Â $30 to $35 an hour

FirstService Residential will compensate the successful candidate in accordance with the posted range. The salary or wage paid to the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience, education, and specific job responsibilities. For positions designated at a client's property, the salary or wage will also be premised upon the client's directive. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future Â

Your Responsibilities: Â

  • Perform minor and major repair ofcommon areabuildings and equipment as needed, document for follow through withappropriate workorder systemÂ
  • Perform various preventative maintenance functions withappropriate workorder systemÂ
  • Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing workÂ
  • Conduct minor repairs on lighting systemsÂ
  • Conduct minor repairs on Plumbing systemsÂ
  • Conduct minor repairs on Electrical systemsÂ
  • Paint exterior and interior walls, structures, fencing, etc., as needed and document throughappropriate workorder processÂ
  • Complete regular community inspections and prepare status reportsÂ
  • Check fire escapes routes, review all fire doors for proper function andburned outlightsÂ
  • Frequent contact with others in the performance of daily duties including management, commercial and residential tenants and owners,vendorsand othersÂ
  • Be courteous and pleasant to residents at all times, speak with confidence about the boundaries of your roleÂ
  • Take initiative to act with minimal supervisionÂ
  • Recognize and address problems quickly and decisivelyÂ
  • Promptly respond to emergencies; coordinate with other responders to ensure the safety of the communityÂ
  • Ensure that supplies/tools areattended at all timesÂ
  • Store tools/cart out of siteÂ
  • Regularly inspect property for, and replace,ÂÂ

  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment, and setup rooms, for meetings or projects as neededÂ

  • Clean boiler room, electrical room, gas room, lighting fixtures, exit signs,baseboardsand moldingÂ
  • Emergency On-Call requirement as neededÂ
  • Work weekends as business needs requireÂ

Skills & Qualifications: Â

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilityrequired:Â

  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions, keepaccuraterecords, fill out logs and journals, and perform administrative operational functionsÂ
  • Ability to learn software programs for Repair and Preventative Maintenance Service RequestsÂ
  • Knowledge of basic principles of plumbing, wood finishing, painting, electrical and carpentryÂ
  • Ability tooperatea variety of hand and power tools, including saws, drills, floor buffer, vacuum, carpet cleaner, power washer and other tools used in building and grounds maintenanceÂ
  • Knowledge of methods, materials and equipmentregularly usedin maintenance and repair workÂ
  • Valid California Driver's License and proof of insuranceÂ
  • May berequiredto use personal vehicle in the performance of job dutiesÂ
  • Occasional overtime isrequiredÂ
  • Consistent and regular attendance isrequiredÂ

Education & Experience: Â Â

  • Two years of experience in building maintenance, and repair work or equivalentÂ
