Description/Job Summary

Position: Security Supervisor

FSLA: Status: Exempt

Site: San Diego, CA.

Shift:

Fri, Sat, Sun, Wed, Thur2100-0500

Pay: 83,200.00 Annually

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Security, the Security Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the Security department, including the supervision of Security personnel. The Security Supervisor will direct department staff, hospital security programs and processes to ensure a safe and secure working environment for staff and visitors. This incumbent protects staff and property from theft, damage, or persons from hazards or interference, including the potential for violence in the workplace.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Director of Security in administrative or functional tasks as directed.

  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training security personnel.

  • Respond to healthcare facility emergencies and incidents, as needed.

  • Supervise employees, evaluate performance, and work with employees to correct deficiencies and implement discipline procedures.

  • Assign security duties and provide direction to employees ascircumstances warrant.

  • Conducts regular walk-throughs and security inspections for assigned facilities.

  • Quickly identify potential negative situations and implement effective countermeasures.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of security protocol and procedures.

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be willing to travel to other hospitals and report security threats, risks or activities.

  • Ability to work with confidential and classified information.

MINIMUM HIRING STANDARDS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English.

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED

  • Must have a valid Driver's License (preferably with a clean driving record)

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:

  • Must have Bureau of Security and Investigative Services Certification or Guard Card.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years of healthcare experience with an associate degree.

  • Five years of healthcare supervisory or equivalent experience in lieu of degree

  • Security, military, or law enforcement related experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.

  • The ability to maintain mental stability under periods of stress. The ability to push or pull gurneys with patients of various weights on them.

  • Must be able to physically restrain people by physically holding the individual down and then be able to also carry or lift the individual with other healthcare facility staff members.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Indoor and outdoor environment.

  • Driving a vehicle to conduct work.

The duties of this job include possible exposure to deadly weapons, injury from violent persons, infectious persons, gases and fumes, blood and body fluids, hazardous chemicals, heat, wind, rain and cold; the employee must understand and demonstrate the ability to take protective actions, following established guidelines. The noise level in the work environment can vary from extreme noise to extreme quiet.
