Deloitte Advisory Senior Consultant - Integrated Energy Value Chain (IEVC) in San Diego, California

Given the highly liquid nature of the energy markets, entering and exiting positions to maximize enterprise gross margin can occur dynamically at any point across the value chain. In order to confidently act on the operational, financial, logistical, transactional and contractual trade-offs, continuous financial transparency and optimization insights are needed. Digital solutions that can be delivered subjectively and quickly are essential to unlocking this untapped potential of an energy company's existing portfolio.

We are looking for experienced professionals with an extensive understanding of the Midstream / Downstream Oil & Gas / Energy industry.

Responsibilities of the Advisory Senior Consultant include:

  • Coordinate and optimize product/crude scheduling and logistics, ensuring smooth operations across all stages of the value chain.

  • Oversee refinery operations and conduct strategic refinery planning with an emphasis on economics and efficiency.

  • Lead refinery optimization activities, including crude feedstock selection, material balance, and backcast processes, to maximize gross margins.

  • Work closely with traders, providing guidance on market conditions and potential opportunities to enhance profitability.

  • Help clients manage and execute hedging and trading operations for crude, feedstocks, products, and intermediates, with a clear understanding of the risks and opportunities in the energy market.

  • Implement digital solutions to enhance financial transparency, optimization insights and facilitate dynamic decision-making.

  • Leverage data science techniques and linear programming to solve complex scheduling and logistics problems and optimize operations.

  • Understand and manage the operational constraints faced by a refinery, ensuring they do not negatively impact the company's portfolio.

  • Develop and implement strategies for downstream energy operations, with an emphasis on maximizing gross margin and unlocking untapped potential.

    Required Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a diverse set of skills including 3+ years of experience with product / crude / fuels scheduling and logistics, refinery operations, refinery planning / economics, downstream strategy, logistics, hedging and trading operations (crude, feedstocks, products, intermediates).

  • Candidates should be well-versed in refinery optimization activities such as crude feedstock selection, material balance, and refinery backcast processes.

  • Will have experience sitting on the commercial / trading / supply side; commercial analyst skillset - working with traders and providing guidance on the market.

  • Understands the operational constraints faced by a refinery.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Downstream energy background preferred.

  • Data science, linear programming, scheduling / logistics experience preferred

At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $97,613 - $188,375.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
