Summary:

Performs Reserach and/or development in collaboration with others to complete science-based projects. Conducts and collaborates with others on basic research and development relevant to long-term objects and concerns.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designs, plans, performs and analyzes laboratory experiments in a safe, timely manner with minimal supervision and appropriate communication with supervisor

  • Regularly multitasks and proficient at scheduling and experiments and meeting timelines

  • Demonstrates a more advanced knowledge of their focus area and directly relevant scientific literature

  • Follows the current, technical scientific literature in the area of specialization and is aware of new developments

  • Produces data and contributes to written reports with limited guidance

  • Shares findings internally and with the larger research community with oversight

  • Regularly participates and presents in group and team meetings, leading discussions and answering questions

  • Attends scientific conferences and present posters

  • Recognizes problems in the lab and demonstrates problem-solving skills by proposing solutions

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates sound judgment in the planning and implementation of novel techniques and processes• Train others in their technical area of expertise; contributes to new experiment designs

  • Explains moderately complex concepts to junior team members

  • Compiles, maintains, interprets and acts on results of analysis and communicates these results to supervisor

  • Occasionally mentors more junior staff

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to set and meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize resources based on project needs

  • Highly capable of utilizing advanced techniques

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Good grasp of project concepts and strategy

  • Has considerable knowledge and full understanding of area of specialization within a professional discipline

  • Protein fractionation, purification, and molecular biology background is required

  • Experience with HPLC, chromatography systems, and SDS page is necessary

  • Able to sponsor or support the introduction of new and improved methods, products, procedures or technologies

Education:

BA/BS; Educational degree must be relevant to position (e.g. biomedical research, physiology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or neuroscience.)

Experience:

Typically 5 or more years of relevant experience

Equivalency:

3 years and a Master's degree; or a Ph.D. without experience; or High School diploma with 7 or more years of work experience.

The estimated pay scale for the Research Associate III role based in San Carlos, CA, is $90k - $95k per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to X% of the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
