At Guy F. Atkinson Construction (Atkinson Construction) many of our most valued employees work in the field and are members of various labor unions. As a union contractor, we work on a referral process from the local union halls for the hiring of all craft workers.

All carpenter work in connection with the construction of bridges (except for driving of pile) shall be done by the Bridge Carpenter classification. This includes Apprentice, Journeyman, Foreman, and General Foreman.

Bridge Carpenter responsibilities include, but not limited to: construct, repair, and install building frameworks and structures made from wood and other materials; construct, erect, repair, and dismantle built-in-place or prefabricated forms for concrete structures; construct formwork for placement of concrete; assemble columns or wall formwork (gang forms, stick build, slip forms, etc.); erect temporary handrails and associated safety-related items; sawing, stripping, nailing, burning, measuring, tightening/loosening bolts and drilling.

Additionally, the Carpenter Foreman will supervise, coordinate, and schedule a crew of eight (8) or more carpenters.
