Universal Health Services RECREATION THERAPIST (CERT) in SAN ANTONIO, Texas

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE : The Recreation Therapist is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating age appropriate therapeutic recreation programs for behavioral health patients based on evidence-based practice. Recreational Therapists provides group therapy, expressive therapies, recreation and psych education in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Recreational Therapist are also responsible for the supervision of Activity Aides, Music and other personnel. Maintains safety standards and QPI for the department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Documents provision of services including assessments, Master Treatment Plans, and daily Progress Notes.

  • Review and co-sign documents prepared by the Activity Specialists.

  • Develops programs and facilitates Specialized Therapeutic Services for inpatient and outpatient patients who suffer from a wide range of mental health illnesses.

  • Supervises Recreation Therapists, Music Therapists and Activity Specialists and Lifeguards as needed.

  • Develops department Policies and Procedures as needed.

  • Develops and monitors QPI of department on quarterly basis.

  • Responsible for maintaining inventory, supply inventory and purchasing of equipment and supplies.

  • Schedules use of all recreational facilities throughout the hospital.

  • Assumes duties of S.T.S. Director in their absence.

  • Oversees and evaluates Internship program.

  • Supervises Special Events provided by STS department.

    CUSTOMERS SERVED : Inpatients, partial patients, and agencies.

    Qualifications

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of age-appropriate recreational/music activities and the ability to modify and/or adapt activities to suit specific populations and treatment plan.

    EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university in Therapeutic Recreation or Music Therapy.

  • Masters Degree in Recreational Therapy preferred

    LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification through the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification required.

  • Music Therapist Board Certified preferred

  • Must have current High and Low Elements Facilitator Certification or acquire within 90 days of hire.

    EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a minimum of 1 year in experience in program development, implementation and evaluation of recreation/music therapy programs in a psychiatric or hospital setting.

  • Experience with children, adolescents, adults and military in psychiatric and / or hospital setting.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Walking and standing for long periods of time.

    • Required lifting items 25-50 pounds.

    • Requires frequent pushing, pulling, kneeling, grasping, twisting, and bending.

    • Repetitive use of hands.

    • Requires hearing and vision to be correctable to fall within normal range.

    • Requires working outside for periods of time.
