San Antonio Behavioral Health Maintenance Worker (Full Time) in San Antonio, Texas

General Statement of Duties:

  • Responsible for repair, overhaul and preventive maintenance of hospital owned equipment, fixtures, fittings, furnishings and utilities distribution.

  • Must work under normal day-to-day conditions as well as under emergency conditions that require all equipment function as normal. May perform other duties of a special nature as directed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Respond to all trouble calls in the hospital

  • Performs repairs on non-medical equipment, i.e. dietary, environmental service equipment, beds, plumbing, lighting and HVAC.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on non-medical equipment such as air handling units, dish machine and exhaust fans.

  • Restarts and shut down chillers and boilers.

  • Responsible for implementation and coordination of fire drills. Member of hospital fire response team.

  • Documentation of regulatory requirements e.g. The Joint Commission, Texas Department of Health and Human Services, etc.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Make general building repairs to include but not limited to general carpentry repairs, ceiling and floor repairs, and furniture.

  • Perform paint and patch work.

  • Minor electrical repair to portable non-medical equipment.

  • Repair medical gas outlets in patient rooms.

  • Replacement of building interior lighting as needed and resetting of circuit breakers.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Understands and is committed to helping the Hospital and its associated facilities achieve its goals.

  • Understands and enforces system, departmental and hospital policies and procedures as well as established rules and regulations.

  • Must learn and comply with corporate and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.

  • Understands and complies with the Hospitals code-of-conduct and models ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community.

  • Supports the Mission and Vision of the Hospital and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

  • Participation in "on-call" rotation is a must.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of Building Maintenance. Demonstrates expert level knowledge of maintenance practices and expert level skills in common tools and equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

High school diploma/or GED. Training and experience: prefer 3 years experience in a related job or equal in training and on the job training, with at least 1 year experience in a healthcare environment. Prefer at least 3 years experience and a high level of knowledge in a specific trade to include either HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical.

Certified in related field preferred. Complete competencies as defined by department/unit and/or clinical specialty area. Good verbal and written skills are essential.
