Performs advanced material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and at points of supply. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Materials/Process Inspector IAnalyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.Composes correspondence, reports and supporting documents; files; orders supplies and equipment.Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs, meet with supervisors and managers to resolve problems and perform unannounced inspection of operations.Plans, coordinates, assigns, monitors and reviews the work of consultantsPrepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material and assists in determining cause for material problems.Maintains and calibrates equipment.Oversees work activities at different and remote locations.Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Materials/Process Inspector IIIn addition to the duties listed aboveHandles problem calls from producers, suppliers, inspectors and construction project field personnel.Interprets plans and specifications and negotiates with producers and suppliers to resolve differences.Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.Observes tests and inspections and reviews reports from other inspectors; performs quality assurance for tests and inspections.Materials/Process Inspector IIIIn addition to the duties listed aboveAdvises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.Orders equipment and supplies.Trains and assists other inspectors and private sector employees and provides project specification information.
