As Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist, you will assist and lead geotechnical tasks and the delivery for a wide variety of projects within the water, transportation, rail, and ports & maritime teams. These projects will include both conventional design-bid-build projects, as well as design-build projects.

Your responsibilities will include mentoring less experienced staff, leading projects in the development and implementation of geotechnical data collection programs, geotechnical analyses, preparation of reports, development of contract documents, and providing support during project construction. You will assist with design of shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, slope stabilizing measures, tunnelling and trenchless design. Each day, you will have the opportunity to follow projects from concept development through the construction phase with our engineers.

This position requires a geotechnical engineer or engineering geologist who wants to function as part of a large interdisciplinary design team, who can interact with our existing and perspective clients, who can provide support to business development efforts, and who will assist the regional business group and geotechnical leadership in advancing the technical capabilities of the regional office and global geotechnical group.

Technical skills that are needed to serve in this role include, but are not necessarily limited to, knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Exploration methods, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and laboratory testing for soil and rock;

  • Experience with design, construction, and inspection of dam and levee projects and trenchless pipe construction;

  • Design of typical geotechnical structures, such as shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, embankment and cut slopes, and ground improvement;

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn computer programs for geotechnical analyses, such as gINT, OpenGround, SETTLE3D, LPILE, SLIDE or SLOPE, MATHCAD, FB-Multipier, PLAXIS, and FLAC; and

  • Preparation of design drawings and specifications

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • B.S. Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology, or equivalent

  • M.S/Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology, or equivalent

  • 2-5 years of geotechnical consulting experience with a focus on water, conveyance, trenchless or related projects

  • Able to participate in field assignments including subsurface investigation, instrumentation, monitoring, and construction.

  • Some travel required, approx. 20%.
