Universal Health Services FINANCIAL COUNSELOR / SELF PAY COLLECTOR in SAN ANTONIO, Texas

Responsibilities

Position Summary :

The Financial Counselor position is responsible for developing and facilitating payment plans for patients to finance behavioral health care services at Laurel Ridge Treatment Center. The Financial Counselor coordinates between insurer, third party payer, and patient. This position is responsible for advising patients of any alternative sources of funding or assistance available from social service agencies while minimizing debt expenses. The Financial Counselor practices Service Excellence Standards, maintains patient confidentiality, and represents Laurel Ridge Treatment Center in a professional manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the point of contact for all financial assistance related questions.

  • Communicates effectively with patients and insurance companies on the phone.

  • Documents and reports payment information timely and accurately.

  • Educates patients about payment options and financial assistance.

  • Negotiates and strategizes patient payment arrangements to minimize debt.

  • Updates patient accounts and balances timely and accurately.

  • Reviews and processes patient and insurance company forms.

  • Explains financial information.

  • Determines prospective patients’ ability to pay.

  • Obtains necessary forms and documents of all insurances.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative and busy work environment

  • Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy

  • Proficient on computer and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)

  • Proficient in 10-Key calculator

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task, and prioritize

  • Dependable and reliable

  • Maintains effective and cooperative working relationship with co-workers, leaders, clinical staff, and the general public

    Qualifications

    Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

    Licensure Certification:

  • N/A

    Experience:

  • One year experience in hospital business office setting required.

  • Experience in insurance verification, billing, collections, and third-party reimbursement preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Requires frequent walks to the units.

  • Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive use of hands for typing, writing, and using a calculator.

  • Constant use of telephone and computer (approximately 5-8 hours daily).

  • Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential functions.

  • Ability to work under stress on a daily basis.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and grasping.

  • Emotional stability necessary to perform essential functions.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to speak and write clearly.
