Microsoft Corporation Energy Program Manager, Cloud Operations + Innovation in San Antonio, Texas

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of hundreds of datacenters, managed by a team of subject matter experts working to support services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide.

Within the Microsoft's Cloud Operations + Innovation team, Microsoft seeks a new Energy Program Manager, Cloud Operations + Innovation focused on the U.S. Central Region. The candidate will manage a portfolio of activities to identify and execute energy supply opportunities, infrastructure development plans, and interconnection strategies to support Microsoft’s continued datacenter growth. The candidate will build and lead relationships with utilities and other stakeholders to originate and perform diligence on energy supply opportunities.

The candidate will develop industry-leading solutions that combine knowledge of power markets, and regulations to deliver power to Microsoft datacenters. The candidate will understand the dynamics of energy markets and Microsoft’s own unique position in the energy sector. The candidate will bring an innovative, collaborative presence to the role and is eager to learn about several parts of the electricity sector.

Responsibilities

  • Lead datacenter interconnection and energy supply contract development with utilities and third-party energy suppliers in support of Microsoft’s datacenter businesses in the Americas.

  • Lead or assist in the analysis of energy industry trends, market policy and regulations to proactively identify opportunities to reduce cost, minimize risk, and advance sustainability goals.

  • Support strategy development and execution of regulatory engagements with utilities, regulators, and related stakeholders important to datacenter infrastructure deliver, cost/range management and sustainability goals.

  • Work collaboratively with external vendors and consultants on regional market research.

  • Develop internal business cases including providing input on financial models and market research.

  • Build relationships with external suppliers and partners, particularly electric utilities, local and regional regulatory agencies, customers, and energy technology providers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 2+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience working with regulatory structures in the energy and utility industry.

  • Experience in data centers and cloud services.

  • Experience in the power industry with a focus on the mechanics of power markets.

Other Requirements:

Cloud Background check: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 5+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

Sourcing Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
