USAA Data Scientist Senior in San Antonio, Texas
Why USAA?
Translates business problems into applied statistical, machine learning, simulation, and optimization solutions to inform actionable business insights and drive business value through automation, revenue generation, and expense and risk reduction. In collaboration with engineering partners, delivers solutions at scale, and enables customer-facing applications. Leverages database, cloud, and programming knowledge to build analytical modeling solutions using statistical and machine learning techniques. Collaborates with other data scientists to improve USAA’s tooling, expanding the company’s library of internal packages and applications. Works with model risk management to validate the results and stability of models before being pushed to production at scale.
The Opportunity

Tasks: Identify and manage existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role. Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled. Follow written risk and compliance policies and procedures for business activities. Design and implement complex technical solutions. Design, build, manage and optimize data pipelines for data structures encompassing data transformation, data models, schemas, metadata, data quality, and workload management. Participate in daily standups and lead design reviews. Breakdown business features into technical stories and approaches. Analyze data and enable machine learning. Create proof of concepts and prototypes. Implement efficient defect management, root cause analysis, and resolution processes. Assist in setting technical direction for the team. Mentor and coach junior engineers. May telecommute. (Ref: 20972.53.7)
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Data Science, Statistics or related field and 4 years of experience in the job offered or in a data scientist-related occupation. Alternatively, will accept a Master’s degree in Analytics, Data Science, Statistics or related field and 12 months of experience in the job offered or in a data scientist-related occupation. Position requires:
Stochastic modeling, machine learning, pattern recognition, and advanced mathematical techniques: neural nets, simulation, or graph analysis;
Java or C;
Python, PERL, or Ruby;
Data mining and statistical analysis;
Statistical and predictive modeling approaches: Gaussian Process, Markov Models, Hierarchical Clustering, K-Means, Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Monte Carlo Simulation, and Neural Networks; and
Model risk management and compliance.
