USGP is seeking a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join our team, and provide care at the DOD's largest medical center, consisting of a 429 bed tertiary referral center and a Level 1 Trauma Center with an average case load of 1500 cases per month.

SCHEDULE

  • Various days/shifts to include eight (8), ten (10), twelve (12), sixteen (16), or twenty-four (24) hour shifts as needed, but not to exceed 40 - 45 hours per week.

DUTIES

  • Administers anesthesia independently for all types of physical status classifications of surgical cases, to include anesthesia for emergency and trauma patients ranging from newborn to geriatric at San Antonio DoD Military Treatment Facilities, primarily at San Antonio Military Medical Center, Joint Base San Antonio, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

  • The majority (greater than 80%) of Anesthesia services shall be performed in the area of emergent and non-emergent surgical anesthesia.

  • A minority of anesthesia service (less than 20%) may be performed on functions that directly support anesthesia patient care.

  • The CRNA shall monitor anesthesia care, and manage patient anesthesia experience, perform preoperative evaluations and preparations, administer spinal, epidural, local bier block, peripheral regional nerve blocks and general anesthetics, monitor patient reactions to anesthesia and surgery, manage fluid therapy, and perform post-operative evaluations.

  • Functions as an independent anesthesia provider, and is responsible for planning and executing anesthesia plans, responding to adverse reactions and emergencies, and collaborating with Anesthesiologists, or other specialists as necessary.

     

     

CERTIFICATIONS

  • Shall have and maintain current certification in BCLS and ACLS.

PROFESSIONAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Shall maintain a current license to practice nursing in at least one state in the United States.

EDUCATION

  • Be a graduate of an approved anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthetist Education Program Schools or its predecessors.

EXPERIENCE

  • Must have experience in all types of anesthesia utilized in the performance of surgical anesthesia to include but not limited to general endotracheal, subarachnoid and epidural blocks.

  • Experience in the placement of central venous catheters, arterial lines, and regional anesthetic techniques is preferred at the discretion of the Dept of Anesthesia.

  • Must have current experience in the past year (three months or more in the last 12 months) providing epidural anesthesia.

  • Must have experience with providing anesthesia care to complex high acuity patients with critical illnesses and traumatic injuries.

  • High-risk obstetrical anesthesia experience is preferred.

INVESTIGATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Must maintain a minimum of a favorably adjudicated Tier 1 (T1).

CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENT

  • Background checks will be based on fingerprints of individuals obtained by qualified government law enforcement or security personnel and inquiries conducted through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and State Criminal History Repository check, and a local Installation Record Check if required.

CITIZENSHIP

  • Each HCP shall have proof of U.S. citizenship (certified copy of birth certificate or naturalization papers.

HEALTH AND IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS.

  • All contract Healthcare Providers (HCPs) performing direct healthcare services under this contract shall receive a general physical examination prior to commencement of services

OTHER

  • Shall possess sufficient interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds and with other healthcare providers.

  • Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other health care providers.
