City of Sammamish Seasonal Park Maintenance Worker (Landscaping) in Sammamish, Washington

Description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS The City of Sammamish is recruiting eight (8) Seasonal Maintenance Workers to work up to six (6) months in Parks & Recreation throughout the summer beginning as early as March 15, or at a reasonably agreed upon start date no later than May 15, 2024. Wage will be dependent on experience. Because of the small size of the city staff, each staff member is expected to perform a wide range of field duties as may be required from time to time. This position is eligible to earn overtime for hours worked over forty (40) per workweek. Due to the nature of this work we require our seasonal maintenance workers to be a minimum of 18 years old. SUPERVISION Work under the supervision of the Parks Resource Superintendent. Technical and field leadership provided by the Lead Maintenance Workers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES General Functions: Perform general maintenance duties including preparation of athletic fields at assigned city park sites or basic maintenance tasks including vegetation control; litter and trash collection; asphalt, concrete, gravel, and trail repairs. Operates a range of small powered equipment. Provides support for special events. May perform duties of similar complexity in more than one maintenance area as required or assigned.   Essential Job Functions:

  1. Perform routine tasks such as weeding, raking, watering, hand mowing, edging, shoveling, litter pick-up, cleaning and repairing trails, ponds, streets, grounds, and other public facilities.
  2. Assist other employees as assigned.

     

Qualifications

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to:

  1. Learn general principles of landscape & facility maintenance.
  2. Safely operate light-duty trucks, hand mowers, and a variety of hand tools used in maintenance.
  3. Lift up to 50 pounds and perform a variety of physical tasks and heavy labor.
  4. Get along with others and work as a member of a team.
  5. Identify work hazards and practice general safety procedures.
  6. Interact with the public in an effective, customer friendly manner.
  7. Communicate information effectively verbally and in writing.
  8. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  9. Work independently without direct supervision in the field.

      Tools and Equipment Used: Equipment such as push mowers, light duty trucks; power edger, backpack & hand-held blowers and string trimmers; shovels, rakes, etc. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. Ability and interest in outdoor maintenance work in all types of weather. Experience in maintenance or other related work preferred.
