Job Summary

The Advancement Web Designer and Developer reports to the senior director of communications on the donor relations marketing and communications team. This position will be the point person for updating and evolving advancement’s giving site, a newly launched website designed to drive donor support for programs, scholarships, and additional funds across the University of Utah and University of Utah Health.

The Advancement Web Designer and Developer will work with advancement colleagues representing the university’s various schools, colleges, departments, and programs to ensure that each area’s giving page is operating efficiently. Additionally, this role harnesses web design and development experience to build new pages to support philanthropic outreach and awareness for new giving campaigns as they arise—applying user experience and giving best practices for web to create an engaging journey across webpages to secure gifts made in support of the university.

This position will closely collaborate with the Annual Giving web specialist to maintain and develop web functionality, design processes, and data collection with University Advancement’s content management system ( CMS ), Wordpress. The web developer ensures all web design and development meet brand and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Annual Giving web specialist to assess and manage project requests

  • Determine project timelines and requirements while balancing stakeholder needs, best practices, and marketing strategies

  • Ideate and deliver new webpage designs and functionality based on project requirements, wireframes, and prototypes

  • Investigate and resolve issues in website functionality, design, and data collection

  • Follow user-centered design principles

  • Maintain a consistent, branded look and feel across the website

  • Edit photos and graphics for web use, and create responsive image size sets

  • Maintain documentation of code and processes to create sustainability and consistency across web projects

  • Collaborate with DR MarComm team to curate content as needed for designing new webpages and updating existing pages

  • Update news pages with content culled from University of Utah and U of U Health

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Ensuring all web content, design, and development meet accessibility ( WCAG 2.1 AA), PCI .

  • Building new CMS components and page templates using HTML and CSS

  • Orchestrating site-wide CSS changes that are responsive and accessible

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). 2-4 years of experience in web design or a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a the web design field.

  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA or AAA web accessibility requirements

  • Experience editing images for responsiveness

  • Willingness to proactively expand skillset to deliver appropriate web solutions

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills

  • Ability to manage workload independently and in alignment with strategic priorities

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite

Other Preferences:
