Job Summary

The Martha Bradley Evans Center for Teaching Excellence ( MBE - CTE ), a unit of the Office of Undergraduate Studies, is seeking a Coordinator of Pedagogies of Belonging. Given the University’s commitment to student success, we are looking for an experienced, collaborative, and innovative faculty developer to design, implement, and assess programming that at its core promotes belonging for all students at the university.

The ideal candidate will have experience in student success initiatives, higher education instruction, and have the skills and flexibility to contribute to a wide array of faculty development programming.

Responsibilities

This position will be part of a dynamic team engaged in faculty development at the University of Utah.

Specifically, the position will:

  • Oversee current and future programming to shape classroom environments that support student belonging;

  • Advance innovative teaching to support student success while also creating opportunities to highlight, celebrate, and promote faculty presently engaged in this work;

  • Support departments and colleges with implementing recommendations to support pedagogy of belonging

  • Facilitate workshops, seminars, modules, etc. on pedagogy of belonging and student success

  • Collaborate with CTE colleagues to infuse pedagogies of belonging into current and future programming;

  • Teach and enhance various CTE courses (e.g., CTLE 6000/6200/6510/6800)

  • Provide consultations with colleagues and faculty, and support faculty in developing and implementing pedagogy of belonging

  • Participate in current and future initiatives at CTE as needed; and,

  • Engage in research on belonging, student success, and faculty development

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology or related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). 2-4 years experience in instructional technology, preferably in an online education environment required. Knowledge of learning theory with the ability to apply the theory into practice; excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office, and DVD Authoring tools; strong editing skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.

Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in higher education, education, or a related field

  • Understanding of faculty needs in a research and AAU -member institution

  • Familiarity with organizational change theory and other related faculty development praxis
