Plans and implements activities related to programs for the School of Medicine’s Office of Continuing Medical Education ( CME ), ensuring goals and objectives are in accordance with established criteria. Interprets program policies and advises program participants on the application of regulations.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversees daily program operations and coordinates program activities to ensure that assigned activities are in compliance with standards set forth by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education ( ACCME ), American Board of Medical Specialties ( ABMS ) and other regulatory bodies that pertain to Continuing Medical Education ( CME ) and Maintenance of Certification/Continuous Certification ( MOC /CC). Coordinate the ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties) Portfolio Program and Maintenance of Certification/Continuous Certification ( MOC /CC) activities. Coordinate CME for enduring materials. Stay current on changes that impact the specific program area of MOC /CC and enduring materials.

  2. Develops and implements program goals and objectives. Reviews activities in program area including facilitating the collection of appropriate learner feedback, director/coordinator analysis, and on-going updates for recurring activities. Coordinate preparing and assisting activities to offer credit by working with activity coordinators and directors. Coordinate and complete files to include preparing the Education Plan using planning worksheet for new materials in coordination with directors and team, facilitating the financial relationship disclosure and mitigation process, statements to learners, approval information, tracking participant participation, maintaining and approving documentation throughout the activity, and completing post activity follow-up. Entering MOC /CC and CME data into CME Tracker database, extracting data from the CME Tracker database and entering it into the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education ( ACCME ) PARS Reporting System, and maintaining MOC /CC and CME database documentation.

  3. Monitors program quality and effectiveness and researches improvement methods. Follow process to ensure activities are independent and free from commercial promotion. Monitors the database to ensure accuracy of data, troubleshoot when issues arise, run reports, etc. Maintains records of each activity using shared files and ensuring all files are complete. Performs CME and MOC /CC activity analysis and assist in the CME program analysis and evaluation. Knows and follows the ACCME MOC /CC Program Guide, the ACCME Standards and Criteria and the ABMS Portfolio Program guidance.

  4. Advises staff, students and others regarding program policies, goals and related technical issues. Serve as main point of contact with coordinators and colleagues for MOC /CC and CME questions. Monitor group email responding to questions, requests and inquiries appropriately. Has accountability for responding to continuing education requests, facilitating education that is free from commercial bias, coordinating implementation of continuing education activities, data management, and evaluating programs and activities. This includes liaising with planning partners throughout the University and our external constitutes.

  5. Prepares reports, financial statements and records on program status and progress for management and outside agencies. Writes and edits program related publications and promotional or educational materials. Prepares and delivers protocols, publication, articles, abstracts with support as needed on specific program area.

Problem Solving

This position provides independent coordination and decision making for all activities of a specified program. The program outcome often impacts the University as a whole. Acts as a liaison between internal and external constituencies involved in program activities. Problems arising from these coordination efforts will be addressed by the incumbent who will refer to the manager for issues outside of program policy and procedure guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus one year directly related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Preferences

Experience working in a Continuing Medical Education or accredited continuing education department preferred.
