Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Director of Editorial and Media Strategy is responsible for the development, coordination, and execution of College of Humanities strategic media material. The Associate Director will collaborate with the Dean’s leadership team to set and guide strategy for telling the College’s story across multiple media platforms. The Associate Director will be responsible for planning and managing the execution of all media and editorial products toward building and maintaining internal and external stakeholder relationships. The Associate Director will collaborate intentionally and effectively within the College and broader University on strategic initiatives to support the College’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • The Associate Director of Editorial and Media Strategy will provide strategic leadership to direct College media engagement with constituent groups including prospective and current faculty and students; alumni and donors; community leaders and supporters; local and national media; higher education innovators; and elected officials. The Associate Director will be expected to have or develop a network of higher education reporters and editors in local and national media to support the telling of the College’s story.

  • The Associate Director’s goal is to oversee all written and electronic (including video) material to enhance the reputation and distinctive identity of the College of Humanities nationally and regionally, work collaboratively with others to increase the opportunities for philanthropic support, and promote the College’s uniqueness.

  • The Associate Director will support the Dean’s messaging – both speeches and written material – and will provide strategic guidance for internal and external editorial material. The Associate Director will be a key member of crisis planning and management, helping to advise the leadership on media during times of crisis and/or emergency.

  • The Associate Director will oversee the development and execution of strategies to increase the visibility of the people and programs of the College, particularly working with faculty in support of academic and research activities.

  • The Associate Director of Editorial and Media Strategy will collaborate with colleagues across the university to ensure an informed and engaged College community. The Associate Director will be a media professional, actively engaged in the discipline, staying informed of new developments and opportunities in strategic media, and incorporating new practices to increase the effectiveness of the College’s communications activity.

  • The Associate Director will supervise a team with the capacity to execute an integrated media strategy that presents a compelling story of the College’s faculty, research, history, donors, curriculum, and students in a consistent, unified, effective manner.

  • The Associate Director will oversee effective systems to ensure that accurate and timely content is captured, developed, and presented consistently and swiftly using channels that will have maximum impact. The Associate Director will supervise the writing and editing of press releases, articles, fact sheets, and backgrounders; cultivates media relationships; monitors responses to media requests, press conferences, media lunches and interviews, and special events.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care.
