When you are chosen as the finalist for this position; Under general supervision, as the Assistant Professor, Engineering; you will prepare and teach fundamental physics courses and on occasion also teach related engineering courses. As a faculty member you may be assigned to any SLCC location, be required to teach online courses, and may be an assigned alternative work schedule.

 

Responsibilities & Duties:

 

  • Demonstrate a depth of understanding in the field as well as the ability to teach courses in engineering and related fields.
  • Effectively prepare and teach assigned courses according to current best practices in student learning for engineering and related fields.
  • Attend and participate in new faculty orientations and ongoing training as required.
  • Serve on Department, Division, School, and/or College committees as needed to assist in policy development, curriculum development, procedures, or other matters that benefit the Department, Division, School, or College.
  • Pursue professional development activities and research that maintain personal expertise, contribute to teaching efforts, student success, and department interests.
  • Demonstrate and support professional commitment to Department, Division, School, and College mission and values.
  • Maintain a supportive attitude with people of diverse backgrounds and toward work, students, colleagues, and administration.
  • Maintain timely communication with students and hold regularly scheduled office/consultation hours.
  • Actively assess student learning including administering student surveys in classes, analyzing student performance records, and other assessment methods as prescribed by Division procedures, including departmental discussion and reviews with the Associate Dean.
  • Develop, revise, distribute and adhere to current course outlines, laboratory projects, instructional materials, and/or syllabi to keep in alignment with transfer institutions, and collaborate with the department on engineering curriculum.
  • Participate in curriculum development and textbook selection and in maintaining curriculum (content and pedagogy) to meet standards of transfer institutions and other accreditation.
  • Integrate technology into courses including instructional delivery in online and other formats as they become available and useful to students.
  • Work with the Engineering Department Coordinator as assigned to communicate with counterparts at other USHE institutions in Majors meetings, PAC meetings, as necessary to maintain relationships, articulation agreements, and seamless transfer for SLCC students.
  • Participate in department recruitment/retention efforts including advising potential and current students about the specific discipline.
  • As assigned, lead concurrent enrollment efforts as well as other related outreach in the community.
  • Accept other duties as assigned.
