Job Summary

The Office of Admissions is an active and expanding team that assists potential students in learning about and enrolling at the University of Utah. We are seeking a welcoming, enthusiastic, and confident admissions counselor to join our staff. The counselor will aid us in broadening our recruitment efforts both within and outside of the state, increasing our enrollment of new students, and molding the incoming class. They will offer guidance to prospective students, their families, high school counselors, and acquire a comprehensive understanding of admissions strategies, institutional regulations, and program options to effectively attract students. The admissions counselor will join a recruitment team in the Emma Eccles Jones Welcome Center, a state‐of‐the‐art building located in the heart of the University’s campus.

Responsibilities

Please note that this job description does not aim to encompass all responsibilities, duties, and qualifications that may be required. Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Developing, implementing, reporting, and assessing a recruitment plan for domestic first‐year and transfer students to help the University of Utah achieve its enrollment objectives.

  • Implementing a recruitment plan for domestic first‐year and transfer students, which includes high school visits, college fairs, information sessions, receptions, meetings with secondary school and independent counselors, prospective students, families, and community‐based organizations.

  • Establishing personalized relationships with prospective students, families, school counselors, alumni, and other stakeholders to support recruitment goals for the assigned territory.

  • Supporting the admission and recruitment of transfer students from institutions within an assigned territory.

  • Collaborating with the campus experience team to plan all off‐campus admission events in all areas of regional responsibility.

  • Evaluating all domestic applications in the regional territory.

  • Traveling significantly for up to 4‐6 weeks annually within the territory, between early September to November and January to May.

  • Performing other assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years’ related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Preferences

Candidates with one year of directly related experience or equivalent are preferred. Additionally, preference will be given to candidates who possess excellent customer service skills, demonstrate proficient oral and written communication skills, have adept interpersonal skills, and demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with culturally and ethnically diverse populations.

Candidates who have the ability to communicate complex information to multiple audiences, as well as speak in front of large groups, demonstrate problem‐solving and time‐management skills, have a valid driver’s license, and possess an understanding of higher education, specifically the value of public higher education are also preferred.

The ideal candidate will have admissions/recruitment experience at a regionally accredited university and be willing to work some evenings and weekends. Travel overnight in‐and out‐of‐state approximately 4‐6 weeks annually will also be required.
