SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Accountant 3, Grants and Self Support Accountant in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Provide accounting and financial support for College self-support and applied technology programs. Provide financial oversight and guidance for various academic and business operations, activities and program accounts. Review and analyze accounting transactions and systems to help ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data. Prepare income statements and fiscal reports for management, and work closely with management in resolving financial related problems and decisions within time deadlines. Perform risk analysis and monitor compliance with financial related policies, procedures, laws, regulations and established internal controls. Perform grant and contract post-award accounting, compliance and reporting activities. Prepare journal entries, reallocation of transactions between accounts and process inter-department billings. Assist with difficult purchasing decisions. Supervise staff and provide direction/supervision of other fiscal operation related positions.

  • Become knowledgeable with all assigned grant/contract guidelines, regulations and restrictions in order to provide fiscal monitoring and assurance that expenditures are allowable costs; that indirect costs are determined and appropriately charged; that required accounting reports are submitted; that expenditure reimbursements are collected in a timely manner and that employee time and effort records are maintained.
  • Track, analyze, and report grant and contract income and expenditures.
  • Prepare proposed journal entries and budget transfers.
  • Train and advise program directors on proper application and interpretation of cost principles and other grant and contract financial requirements.
  • Monitor the financial activity of sub-awardees is completed in compliance with grant requirements.
  • Communicate with grantor entities in interpreting and resolving financial related issues.
  • Compile, prepare and submit financial reports, including reimbursement requests and billings as required by the granting agency or by others from within SLCC.
  • Maintain an accurate accounting of all cost share obligations associated with any grants and contracts.
  • Work closely with the College Office of Sponsored Projects in providing fiscal oversight of grants and contracts to ensure fiscal compliance with grant guidelines and regulations.
  • Assist grantor entities and auditors regarding the gathering of requested information and the resolution of audit findings or issues.
  • Gather, analyze and interpret financial data and work closely with the Dean and directors in financial decision-making processes.
  • Prepare various financial statements and reports for management.
  • Consult and advise manager(s) regarding proper application and compliance with financial practices, rules and regulations.
  • Monitor accounting ledgers and budget control accounts for numerous funds and accounts within the assigned College programs.
  • Recognize accounting errors or problems and resolve them.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting entries including that all expected receipts, disbursements, assets and liabilities are properly posted in the College's accounting system.
  • Assist in the annual financial audit process by providing information and resolution of audit findings or issues.
  • Monitor financial and business processes and internal controls to ensure they are functioning as designed.
  • Processes include revenue and expenditure streams related to credit and non-credit educational programs, student enrollment, cost accounting, invoicing and accounts receivable, fixed asset accounting, inventory and daily sales activities.
  • Prepare proposed journal entries, budget transf ers and reallocation of transactions, process interdepartmental billings (IDBs), and assist with more difficult purchases.
  • Oversee the integrity of any independent subsidiary accounting systems and ensure the data in such systems reconcile with the College's main accounting system.
  • Supervise subordinates to successfully accomplish work responsibilities, including hiring, training, providing ongoing coaching and conducting employee performance appraisals.
  • Aids directly in the supervision/direction of other staff performing fiscal related tasks to help ensure financial operations are completed accurately and consistently with accepted procedures, policies and practices.
