The Sylvan Teacher is responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for students by teaching students according to the design of the Sylvan programs. Using the program materials, the teacher creates balanced and robust learning experiences for students. The Sylvan Teacher evaluates student progress on each assignment, communicates this progress, and works with Center staff to ensure learning is personal for each student.   BENEFITS OF WORKING AT SYLVAN * No lesson planning or prep. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED * Reading and Writing Program Teachers: * Four-year degree or equivalent required * Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience required * Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension required for reading teachers * Math Program Teachers:* Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring three or more years of college level math * Minimum of one or two years of tutoring experience in Algebra 1 or 2, Geometry, Precalculus/Trigonometry, Calculus, or Statistics * College and Secondary/Independent School Test Prep Teachers:* Four-year degree or equivalent required * Minimum or one or two years of tutoring experience in SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, or HSPT prep preferred * Academic Coaching Program Teachers:* Four-year degree or equivalent preferred * Minimum of one or two years of tutoring experience in subject areas such as History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Foreign Languages required * Knowledge of study strategies for organization and time management, note-taking, test-taking, and goal-setting preferred The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
