Burns & McDonnell Senior Project Engineer (Multiple Locations) in Saint Louis, Missouri

Our Transmission Line Department within our Transmission & Distribution division is looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our growing business in the Akron, Columbus, and St. Louis offices. The Senior Project Engineer will lead a team responsible for the design of complex transmission line projects and is expected to be a technical leader within the department.

Major responsibilities of the Senior Project Engineer will include:

  • Providing technical leadership, direction, and support for an overhead transmission design team on projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV.

  • Mentoring, coaching, and developing team members.

  • Serving as the primary technical point of contact for the client.

  • Implementation of quality control processes.

  • Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective communication and management of change orders.

  • Leading coordination and communication of project requirements and schedule needs across disciplines within the project team.

  • Responsible for effective communication with clients, project team, and other engineering disciplines.

  • Identification and communication of technical risks associated with projects.

  • Oversight of production work required to meet deliverable milestones.

  • Identifying, developing, and communicating processes and tools to increase efficiency across team and department.

  • Applies expert knowledge of commonly used transmission concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry.

  • Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.

  • Creating, improving, facilitating, and teaching training courses to the project team and department.

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external clients as well as provides technical leadership, guidance and instruction to project teams.

  • Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.

  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from accredited program.

  • 7 years related transmission line design experience (completion of master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience).

  • Professional Engineering license (PE).

  • Ability to effectively lead project teams. Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in scheduling and budgeting.

  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.

  • Consulting or utility experience preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
