Job Summary:

Serves as a technical leader on daily tasks, coordinates the scheduling of work assignments and daily priorities of assigned staff. Ensures safe and reliable operation, maintenance and repair of all support systems and equipment with emphasis on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and ice making machines. Performs electrical, mechanical, plumbing and refrigeration installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repair work.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates work schedules and assignments for assigned group. Evaluates requests for time off and schedule changes and approves or declines following policy. Works with department leadership to ensure staffing levels are adequate to meet needs. Coordinates changes to schedules due to sick calls, leave of absence or other emergent changes in staff availability or work volume. Communicates these changes to appropriate individuals in a timely and respectful manner. Advises supervisor of any potential policy violations related to attendance or schedules.

  • Provides direction and education to staff. Provides guidance on non-routine and/or escalated issues. Makes recommendations for new or improved processes. Orients new staff to policies and procedures. Identifies the need for re-instruction and/or training on new processes, procedures or equipment. Provides ongoing education to staff. Assist the supervisor with onboarding of new staff, ensuring mandatory competency education is being completed, developing and presenting training and providing input to performance evaluations.

  • Ensures that heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, systems, and controls are adjusted and maintained to meet maximum design criteria and specifications. Performs maintenance on all HVAC components according to manufacturers requirements and preventive maintenance work requests.

  • Inspects and tests HVAC systems to ensure safe and efficient operation. Troubleshoot and diagnose heating and cooling problems and perform required repairs. Records results and informs supervisor regarding unsafe conditions or operational problems.

  • Perform inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all refrigerators and ice machines.

  • Complete projects on a timely basis and within budget parameters. Maintains current and accurate records of all maintenance inspections and repairs in computerized maintenance management system and/or on appropriate forms. Ensures work areas, equipment, and supplies are kept clean, orderly and safe.

  • Initiates development of processes that support continuous compliance with Joint Commission standards.

  • Communicates and works with clinical and support staff regarding maintenance requirements, potential impacts to operations, and coordination of activities.

  • Operates all mechanical equipment in the boiler room area including the emergency generator and cooling tower. Installs and repairs electrical and plumbing equipment/systems as required.

  • Provides HVAC related training and instruction to other plant operations and maintenance staff.

  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Three years' experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Constant standing and walking.

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

  • Frequent reaching, gripping and keyboard use/data entry.

  • Frequent use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).

  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

  • Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Rare use of smell to detect/recognize odors.

  • Rare driving.
