Job Summary:

Performs Nerve Conduction studies, assists the physician with Electromyogram diagnostics. Maintains and calibrates equipment and prepares reports. Participates on training and education opportunities.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all required procedures within the EMG lab including, but not limited to performing Nerve Conduction Velocities. Including both routine and advanced procedures/studies as well as both common and uncommon nerves.

  • Independently begin nerve conduction study. Collect and summarize findings and present to physician prior to starting EMG process.

  • Assists with EEG testing, patient disconnections, and time calculations for long term EEG.

  • Interpret and identify disease types from any abnormalities. Assist with studies for Physician diagnosis.

  • Prepare EMG reports. Identify studies outside of normal parameters. Consult results with Physician.

  • Schedule and coordinate times for diagnostic services with other departments when necessary.

  • Maintain filing, archiving, and storage of patient data.

  • Maintain designated work area in a safe, clean, orderly manner and advise supervisor of malfunctioning equipment or unsafe conditions.

  • Answer incoming telephone calls, schedule appointments, and perform other clerical duties as necessary or assigned.

  • Perform chart preparation to understand clinical presentation for outpatient studies.

  • Maintains equipment(to include helium exchange) and supplies for all studies performed.

  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent

MINIMMUM EXPERIENCE: One year of experience

WORKING CONDITIONS

May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.

Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne pathogens.

Exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids and wastes.

Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards.

Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements.

May be exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness).

Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.

May be required to handle emergency or crisis situations.

Occasionally subjected to irregular hours.

Exposed to chemicals such as isopropyl alcohol and gel that are used in diagnostic testing procedures.

Exposed to chemicals for cleaning/disinfecting of equipment using hospital approved agents.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients (can exceed 350 lbs on rare occasions)

Periodic heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs).

Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking/sitting required.

Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts heavy equipment/supplies (up to 400 lbs)

Manual dexterity, mobility and fine motor skills required.

Intermittent exertion when performing studies.

Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching required in performing job duties.

VISION REQUIREMENTS:

Be able to adjust vision for varying degrees of room light.

Bring objects into focus and see clearly at 20 inches or less.
