Director of Public Service & Safety

As the appointing authority for service and safety departments, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and managing all these departments at an administrative level. This includes the police, sanitary, storm sewer, street, electric utility, engineering, water distribution, water/wastewater treatment plants, zoning, subdivision, and recreation. You will also ensure that the city complies with all federal and state regulations, and you will be responsible for managing traffic regulations in the city. Additionally, you will handle all personnel matters within the service and safety departments.

Your job will involve conducting staff meetings and encouraging department heads to develop their skills in their respective fields. You will also help department heads to resolve any operating or personnel-related problems that may arise and evaluate departmental performance levels, recommending areas for improvement. You will serve as the contracting authority for service and safety departments, receive and review contract bids on jobs and materials, and furnish specifications, entering into contracts for city sales and purchases.

You will attend city council meetings to provide input and maintain current knowledge of council decisions and ordinances. You will also conduct special studies and present reports to the council as necessary, as well as attend professional meetings.

Completion of a bachelor's degree in business management or a related field and a minimum of five (5) years of management experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
