This position performs manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Remote Facilities, pumping station equipment, and lift stations under supervision.
Major Duties
- Maintains the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Remote Facilities in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; performs routine general equipment and building maintenance in addition to routine grounds maintenance work.
- Operates and maintains various wastewater treatment process equipment such as chemical feed systems, pumps, boilers, grit removal equipment, elevators, and other plant equipment; adjusts according to established procedures when necessary.
- Makes pump and chemical feed changes, as required.
- Collects wastewater samples and performs routine tests as assigned and records results.
- Performs preventive maintenance and/or repair maintenance on Wastewater Treatment Plant and Remote Facilities equipment as assigned. May assist in the maintenance and repair work on more complex machinery and electrical equipment.
- Unloads, dilutes, mixes, and monitors strengths of Hypochlorite levels at Retention Treatment Basins.
- Cleans floors, chemical feeding equipment, wet wells, containment areas, and flushes tanks and basins.
- Operates all plant equipment and works as Plant Operator A in emergencies.
- Operates forklifts, mowers, sewer jets, backhoes and other machinery as required. Also, may be required to use a variety of standard and specialty tools and equipment in the performance of duties.
Performs related duties as required.
Job Requirements
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years' work in operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment including industrial size pumps, motors, and compressors.
Previous work experience in a water or wastewater treatment plant is preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Driver's License.
