STARS Fixed Route CDL Bus Operator in Saginaw, Michigan

Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) is a public transportation system for the urbanized Saginaw area, which travels about 1.2 million miles per year. STARS provides basic transportation needs and is an important partner in economic development. STARS also serves as an effective tool for mobility-challenged citizens. It is the MISSION of STARS to provide safe, efficient, dependable, and affordable public transportation for ALL citizens of Saginaw.

Position: Fixed Route CDL Bus Operator (Full-Time)

Number Of Positions: 25 Available

General Summary: The Fixed Route CDL Bus Operator is responsible for the safe transportation of passengers by operating any type of public transit vehicle on fixed route services, services running on a schedule, and any other services that are not paratransit/demand response services.

Essential Job Functions: 1. Observe all state and municipal traffic laws. 2. Assure proper fares are deposited, report defective equipment, utilize appropriate radio procedures, and exercise defensive driving. 3. Record information, such as passenger counts, transfers collected, mileage and timecards, defect inspections, and accident and incident reports. 4. Provide outstanding customer service, assist, and advise passengers. 5. Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor and/or the Senior Manager of Transportation

Reports to: Senior Manager of Transportation

Qualifications: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Three to Five (3-5) years of experience as a Bus Operator. Must possess a valid CDL (Commercial Driver License) with the proper endorsements for public transit service. Provide neat, professional, courteous service. Load wheelchairs and lift up-to 50 pounds.

Examination/Screening: Selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a drug screen, physical examination, and background check.
