SUMMARY:

  • Under general supervision, receives and records payments for Landfill fees and responds to citizen inquiries over the telephone or in person.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISITICS:

This is the first level of a two-tier job group. It is distinguished from the next higher level by the absence of more advanced knowledge, skills, and independent judgment. This position reports to the Business Services Administrator.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Responds to inquiries from customers by phone and in person regarding Landfill fees.
  • Receives payments for Landfill fees providing customer with proper receipt; balances cash at the close of each day in accordance with procedures.
  • Sorts, balances, and inputs utility bills paid by mail or in drop box.
  • Operates scales and inspects loads for allowable items in Landfill operations.
  • Input and processing of data into multiple software systems for use in Information Processing operations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of cash handling techniques.
  • Knowledge of financial record-keeping practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to the collection and disposal of solid waste.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Skill in operating a computer and appropriate software applications.
  • Skill in filling out forms, keeping records and preparing narrative and technical reports.
  • Skill in providing customer service.
  • Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses:

  • High School diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
  • One (1) year work experience in customer service, cash handling or clerical activities.
  • OR an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work is performed in an indoor environment, subject to distraction from customers and visitors.
  • Subject to standing for extended periods of time, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling, climbing, stooping and occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Work is occasionally performed in an outdoor environment, seasonal heat, and cold and extreme weather conditions.
  • Subject to noise from equipment operation.
  • Subject to dust, dirt, oil/grease, gases, and equipment operation, potential for exposure to rodents, insects, foul odors, broken glass, fires and hazardous chemicals, working in a restrictive work chamber, flying debris, walking over uneven terrain and working at heights on ladders or scaffolding.
  • Available to work extended hours, holidays and weekends as required. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
