Responsibilities

This position will coordinate and supervise the day-to-day operations of the acute hospital pharmacy in order to ensure high quality pharmaceutical care is offered to all customers. The incumbent will foster, enhance, and promote pharmaceutical care by educating, role modeling, participating in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement programs, and other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Director. Given that two-thirds of the department's operating expenses are drug supply costs, a major focus of this position is the appropriate control of inventory and effective and efficient use of pharmaceuticals. In addition, a large portion of the incumbent's time will be focused on regulatory compliance. This incumbent will also spend time in staffing.

The incumbent assists the Pharmacy Director in ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations governing pharmacy practice in the inpatient and skilled nursing areas, maintenance of required documentation for distribution of controlled substances, monitoring of daily quality control, conducting audits, policy creation and all other aspects of pharmacy practice

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospital pharmacy and operates under the direction of the Pharmacy Director. The incumbent works collaboratively with pharmacy staff members, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, nursing/ancillary care providers and physician staff to ensure that high quality pharmaceutical care is routinely provided to all customers in the acute care setting. This requires purchasing of supplies and maintaining drug inventories sufficient to meet customer demands, resolving service and physician prescribing issues, and appropriate staffing and supervision of pharmacy personnel.

This position assists the Pharmacy Director in the development of the operating and capital budgets and monitors financial performance in relation to those budgets. The incumbent is responsible for staffing the pharmacy appropriately and for adjusting staffing resources in response to fluctuations in census and other demand variables. The incumbent will implement programs and systems to enhance clinical and financial outcomes as directed by the Director. This position has front line responsibility for problem solving and complaint resolution including staff performance, charge discrepancies and dispensing issues.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3 years of current progressive experience as a manager or above in an acute care setting

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited school of Pharmacy

  • Current California Pharmacist License

  • Word processing and data base management using a personal computer

Licensure:

  • Registered Pharmacist license. Oversight for an acute care facility requires licensure in the state in which you practice.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of outpatient and Skilled Nursing pharmacy practice is preferred in addition to inpatient experience

Pay Range

$72.03 - $104.45 /hour
