We're hiring for an Accounting Assistant located in Sacramento, California. This is a non-exempt, introductory accounting position, and will report to our corporate office Monday through Thursday, thirty-two hours per week. LifeSTEPS provides impact to over 100,000 residents residing at over 400 partnered affordable housing communities across the state of California. Our vision is that every person served by LifeSTEPS will be empowered with the skills, resources, and support to maintain stable housing and break the cycle of poverty. TheAccounting Assistant position will assist the Accounting Team by complimenting the day to day administrative and clerical duties of the department, expense account reconciliation, spreadsheet creation and updating, and some payroll support.

Essential Job Functionsinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Promote and live out the LifeSTEPS workplace values of integrity, innovation, empowerment, respect and personal growth in tandem with the Oz Principle.

  • Follow all LifeSTEPS policies, procedures and guidelines.

  • Maximize office productivity through proficient use of appropriate software applications.

  • Department clerical duties as needed; A/P scanning, fax, copies, mail, etc.

  • Assist Controller with daily administrative and general accounting duties.

  • Process restricted funding requests and submit for payment processing.

  • Maintain excel spreadsheets/partner reporting; donor and client focused.

  • Reconcile restricted funds to Fund Development reports.

  • Credit card account donation and fee recording.

  • Assist with accounts receivable collections, as needed.

  • Assist with accounts payable processing, as needed.

  • Process online buying requests as needed.

  • Reconcile expense accounts.

  • Assist with pre and post payroll schedules.

  • Protect the organization by keeping all financial information confidential.

  • Assist with the Accounting Department filing and archive system.

  • Assist in the ordering, receiving, stocking and distribution of office supplies.

  • Welcoming and directing visitors to the appropriate team member. Answering and routing all incoming calls to the LifeSTEPS Corporate main line.

  • Coordinate the pick-up and delivery of outgoing mail as assigned.

  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience and/or License Certification:

  • Associate's degree in a related field

  • One (1) year of experience in an accounting department setting

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree
