VELCO Substation Maintenance Electrician in Rutland, Vermont

Primary Purpose

Maintain VELCOs substation power equipment and perform other duties in the areas of flexible AC transmission systems, fiber optics technology and Dynamic power equipment. We are hiring one substation maintenance electrician into any of our 4 classes. Class 4 being entry level with no experience and Class 1 being someone with 5-7 years of experience.

Responsibilities

1. Install, maintain and repair all types of substation equipment, including but not limited to: high voltage power, Dynamic power and control, AC and DC station service and portable generation equipment.

2. Perform emergency maintenance and restoration of electrical facilities.

3. Operate and train others in the use of diagnostic testing equipment and be capable of analyzing the results. Diagnostic testing includes Doble power factor testing, circuit breaker timing, transformer oil dissolved gas analysis, transformer combustible gas detection, thermo graphic inspections, battery capacity testing and contact resistance testing.

4. Responsible for appropriate labeling of hazardous waste materials, clean up and accurate documentation.

5. Adhere to all company safety rules and policies with particular attention to OSHA regulations.

6. Provide on-call support on a rotating basis, carry a pager and respond as appropriate.

7. Obtain and maintain qualifications and serve on VELCOs switching and tagging list.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience

An Associates degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field. We are open to entry level to class 1 (senior) level individuals. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered. A Vermont Electrician License is preferred though will consider candidates who are currently in an apprenticeship and willing to obtain. Must possess a valid drivers license with the ability to upgrade to a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Hazardous Material and Tanker Endorsements within 6 months. Must possess the ability to work independently as well as a member of a team. Basic computer skills are required.

Physical/Mental Demands\ Technicians must have the capability to work at elevated heights and to lift/pull/carry up to 50 pounds regularly, greater amounts occasionally, to rapidly learn the VELCO Transmission System and Substations. Must be willing and able to travel to all VELCO facilities, with frequent overnight stays, and to carry a pager and respond to off-duty trouble calls. Must be able to maintain fast pace while completing complex work, with competing priorities, within tight timelines and with frequent interruptions.
