Need 10 full time, temporary, seasonal Farmworkers/Laborers to work in Rushford, MN. From: 03/15/2024 to 12/06/2024 Work: 40 hrs./week, Mon.-Fri. 8 hrs./day, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eight (8) hours of work per day is normal. The worker may be requested but not required to work more hours per day and/or on the Sabbath or Federal holidays on a volunteer basis. Due to changing environmental, crop and harvest conditions employees may be on call and available to work up to 16-hour days 7 days per week on a volunteer basis. All hours worked in excess of 48 hours in a work week will be paid at 1.5 times the regular rate of pay. Must Apply By: 07/27/2024 JOB DUTIES: Worker will manually plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables and fruits. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning tools, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil and applying fertilizers, transplanting, direct seeding, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops, applying pesticides, harvesting, cleaning, grading, sorting, packing and loading harvested products from the field. May also participate in irrigation activities and greenhouse/ high tunnel production. JOB REQUIRMENTS: Five (5) months experience, able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted; able to perform duties that require extensive sitting, walking, repetitive movements, extensive pushing and pulling, and frequent stooping. No minimum education required. NOTE: Featherstone Farm engages in a unique form of direct-to-consumer produce distribution (850 -member community supported agriculture - CSA - Program), which requires of employees a knowledge and judgment level significantly above industry standards. This knowledge and judgment can only come from experience in the field and pack house. For example, employees will be required to pick muskmelons within a narrow range of ripeness standards (unlike conventional melons, which are picked and shipped green.) They will be required to pack highly perishable salad crops - no in the conventional 24 count leaf lettuce box - but in boxes of mixed produce where they can easily be crushed or otherwise damaged. They will spend large amounts of time grading heirloom tomatoes for ripeness, cosmetic and structural defects and suitability for delivery to very high-end customers. This skill alone can take weeks to develop, even for an employee who has months or even years of experience. EMPLOYER ASSURANCES: Work guaranteed for 3/4 of contract period, starting with date of arrival at work site. Employer provides free housing for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Employer pays inbound transportation and subsistence to work site upon 50% completion of work contract for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of at least $15.46 per day during travel to a maximum of $59.00 per day with receipts.
