Job Description Summary

The role of Power Systems Modelling Lead, GE Power Conversion UK, is an exceptional opportunity for your capabilities, enthusiasm and experience to make a real impact at one of the leading energy technology companies working on major, global projects. You will bring your extensive skills and experience to the business and continue to develop, support technically challenging projects, lead and grow the Power Systems Modelling team.

The Power Systems Modelling Section Leader will be responsible for leading and performing low and medium voltage power systems design activities up to multi-MW scale, including requirements capture, system level design, operational definition, simulation and analysis on naval or commercial marine, energy and industrial projects. You and your team will have opportunities to work from concept through to commissioning.

Job Description

In this role you will:

  • Lead, support, develop and deliver the power system models and required modelling activities for projects, including reporting, whilst maintaining and overseeing the development of the base standards, growing and advancing the skills and capabilities of the modelling team.

  • Support project teams delivering power systems (including power generation and distribution, energy storage, protection, power conversion and utilisation, control and automation) ensuring the design meets customer and appropriate third-party requirements.

  • Produce and oversee detailed design standards and studies including, but not limited to short circuit calculations, load flow, protection coordination and quality of power supply, including harmonic analyses, common mode and EMC.

  • Produce and oversee requirements and functional specifications for systems and constituent products including generators, switchboards, transformers, power electronic converters, motors, energy storage systems and cabling.

We are looking for a professional with:

  • Minimum of a degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or higher, for example Masters or PhD in a relevant field.

  • Chartered Engineer (or working to) and equivalent proven record of continuous professional development.

  • Proficient with software simulation and design tools sigh as DIgSILENT, PSCAD, eTAP or MATLAB.

  • Experience leading engineering teams.

  • Knowledge grid codes, classification rules, e.g. DNV, ABS, Lloyds for marine and relevant IEC standards (desired)
