About the Ecosystem unit and the Innovation & Incubation team

You’ll be part of the Ecosystem unit that is responsible for helping our customers and partners to build better software faster, while bringing other capabilities into our development platform. We’re working with alliances such as AWS and Siemens to bring modern concepts such as (generative) AI and operational data lakes into our platform.

The Innovation & Incubation team has a strong focus on delivering new capabilities with launching customers and to innovate based actual customer need. The recent focus has been on Generative AI capabilities: from connecting to OpenAI, kickstarting customer development through showcasing different use cases to re-thinking what it means to reshape enterprise app development and business processes by creating AI augmented applications.

About the Mendix Design Community

The Ecosystem Designers are part of the larger Mendix design community that is distributed across several units in Rotterdam, Boston, and Pune, with many UX disciplines. From user experience research and service design to brand and product design, the Mendix design team is filled with creatives focused on elevating the user experience across our products. We are proud to be a diverse team and believe that cross-disciplinary co-creation is the key to our success. Our toolset includes Miro, Figjam and Figma when planning and conducting our work.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• You'll be responsible for crafting an exceptional product experience for both developers and application end-users.

• Your role involves designing various aspects of our IDE, Portals, and dedicated products and maintaining an integrated overview.

• We look to you to demonstrate the potential of our product offering.

• Collaboration is key - you'll work closely with product managers, software developers, researchers, and other designers.

• Maintain a strong user focus. Your role involves researching their needs and use cases to inform your design decisions.

• While we value big ideas, we also appreciate the ability to deliver value in smaller increments to our customers.

• We expect you to delve deep into user needs. Your thoughtful, detail-oriented solutions should be ones that our software engineers are eager to implement.

• Look beyond individual features - understand the broader context of your work and how it fits into the overall user experience.

• Collaborate effectively with others to ensure a consistent and comprehensive user and developer experience.

• Stay adaptable and creative in a rapidly evolving market influenced by trends such as AI.

Role Requirements:

• Ideally holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in design or relevant experience in this field.

• Strong experience in designing digital products - as a Product Designer.

• Thorough understanding of human-centered design process and methodologies.

• Thorough understanding of first principles of software development and computational concepts.

• Pro-active and act when needed without needing specific instructions.

• A proven track record of shipped products with a strong interaction design sensibility.

• Highly skilled in preferably Figma, otherwise equivalent tool (Adobe XD, Miro, Sketch or Invision.

• Experience working with design systems will be a plus.

• Knowledge of web (HTML, SCSS, JavaScript) and mobile (iOS, Android, cross-platform) development is beneficial.

Design Craft Skills:

• Understand the business context of your work.

• Clearly articulate business objectives and design principles as strategic direction for your team’s work.

• Share knowledge with your unit or the whole department.

• Are a beacon of design knowledge within your team.

• Have in-depth knowledge of multiple design skills.
