SUMMARY: Under close supervision, performs cleaning and minor maintenance work in the care of City buildings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Opens buildings at start of day; closes and secures buildings at the end of the day. Sweeps, vacuums, mops, and buffs floors throughout the facility; empties trash receptacles and replaces liners; cleans drinking fountains; sanitizes restrooms and restocks toiletries . Sets up or arranges chairs, tables and other furniture for meetings or events. Assists transit operators sweeping, mopping, cleaning and washing buses. Maintains exterior cleanliness of building. Performs related tasks as required. Supports the relationship between the City of Roswell and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training, and Experience: Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Six months experience in maintenance, custodial or closely related work preferred. Knowledge Of: City and Department policies and procedures. General office maintenance and practices Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and regulations. Methods, materials, and equipment used in the cleaning and basic maintenance of buildings. Skill In: Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Effective verbal and written communication; following instruction. Working with little or no supervision.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid Class D driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico and have a satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in various public facilities; requires constant physical efforts, and may be exposed to dangerous tools, cleaning solvents and chemicals, and equipment. Safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records, and other records deemed necessary. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility. Must pass a pre-employment limited physical given by a City-designated physician.

CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT: Incumbents and candidates must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and insurability in accordance with the City's insurance carrier **
