Chaves County Road Maintenance II in Roswell, New Mexico

Chaves County is accepting applications to fill the current opening for the position of Road Maintenance II at the Road Department.

JOB SUMMARY: This is a skilled heavy automotive and construction equipment operator position. Employee is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all road construction equipment utilized by the Road Department. Employees do not exercise full supervisory responsibility, but do exercise lead responsibilities on the job site regarding subordinate employees on road construction and maintenance projects. The work originates from specific work assignments and is reviewed periodically by an immediate supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or G.E.D.; 4 years experience operating road equipment. Experience Substitution: Graduation from a vocational college in equipment operation may be substituted for two years of experience.

CERTIFICATION/TRAINING: Valid N.M. Class A CDL with a good driving record.

ABILITIES/SKILLS: Must be able to operate with considerable skill all equipment utilized by the Road Department. Must have considerable knowledge of the capabilities, limitations and hazards involved in the operation of heavy automotive and construction equipment. Must have knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures and minor repair procedures for heavy automotive and construction equipment. Must have ability to train others in the safe and efficient operation of equipment. Must have some knowledge in basic supervisory principles and practices. Must have the ability to recognize operating problems with assigned equipment before they become disabling and report same to immediate supervisor. Operates a variety of equipment including the following: front-end loader, dump truck, water truck, pick-up truck tractor, brush hog, backhoe, power broom, service truck, pneumatic roller, tandem truck, steel wheel roller bulldozer, motor grader, bottom dump truck, transport truck and crane. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to write clear concise reports. Able to operate and maintain assigned equipment in a safe and hazard free manner. Must be knowledgeable of all traffic laws and regulations. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees. Must be able to maintain an acceptable attendance record, be punctual and meet established deadlines. Employee is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
