Job Details An Internal Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP), also known as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) specializing in Internal Medicine, plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by providing comprehensive medical care to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician. Their job description may include a wide range of responsibilities, depending on the specific practice and state regulations. Here is a general job description for an Internal Medicine APP: Conduct thorough medical histories and physical examinations of patients. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as blood work, imaging, and electrocardiograms. Make accurate diagnoses and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician. Prescribe medications and therapies, including adjustments to existing medications. Provide preventive care, health promotion, and disease management education to patients. Monitor and manage chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including specialists, nurses, and allied health staff, to ensure coordinated patient care. Consult with supervising physicians on complex cases or when necessary. Communicate effectively with patients and their families, explaining diagnoses, treatment plans, and expected outcomes. Address patient concerns, answer questions, and provide emotional support. Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records, documenting patient encounters, assessments, and treatment plans. Stay current with the latest medical advancements, research, and guidelines relevant to internal medicine. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to further professional development. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as practice-specific policies and protocols. Advocate for patients' rights and well-being, ensuring they receive appropriate care and resources. Work collaboratively within the healthcare team, providing guidance and mentorship to colleagues when needed. Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies and provide initial assessment and stabilization until a physician arrives, if necessary. Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity when providing care to diverse patient populations.
