Collaborate with other departments and locations to manage transportation activity and provide suggestions and execution on continuous improvement ideas to meet & exceed all internal and external customer needs. Responsibilities Carrier Relationship Management Act as a liaison between Hawkins and the carriers. Ensure Hawkins' rates are competitive through spot quotes, RFQ's, and negotiated rates with external carriers. Work with current and potential carriers to ensure sufficient capacity. Achieve and track cost savings. Build and maintain positive relationships with freight carriers. Shipment Coordination Locate carriers for specific loads to meet customer needs and increase satisfaction. Dispatch trucks to provide timely and thorough delivery of product. Balance carrier and internal drivers' capabilities and needs against customer requirements to most effectively service customers. Customer Service Ensure customer requirements regarding pick-up time, delivery dates are achieved or offer suitable alternatives. Maintain courteous and productive relationships with internal and external customers. Process Improvement Resolve freight related problems both internal to Hawkins and with the carrier base; includes root cause analysis and corrective action to increase customer satisfaction. Review and/or revise business processes this position interacts with to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Maintain Best Practices and provide the user group with JDE training to improve the overall efficiency of the system. Assist with developing and directing programs or processes to ensure efficient and cost-effective operation and utilization of transportation resources. Evaluate transfer loads for efficiency. Optimize cost and service levels. Account Reconciliation Work closely with accounting to ensure all freight related costs are accurate, and updates are promptly communicated. Assist Accounts Payable in matching carrier invoices to shipments. Manage vendor-holds and the accruals requiring resolution. File claims with carriers, ensure accuracy and correct payments. Reporting Handling of the daily exception reports for timeliness and accuracy. Software Maintenance Manage updates Preform other duties as necessary ABOUT YOU Bachelor's or associate Degree required; distribution, logistics, or related field strongly preferred. Minimum 7 years of experience in transportation required dispatch experience preferred. Specialty chemical, food, and/or pharmaceutical experience strongly preferred. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of government regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA, HazMat, etc.). Experience with LTL, Bulk and Van transportation. Excellent MS Office applications skills required. Experience and proficiency with JD Edwards or another ERP / MRP. Proven ability to organize and prioritize tasks, work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment, and ensure timely completion necessary. Ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required. Effective communication skills required - verbal, written and interpersonal. Proven ability to work well independently and as a team.
