Job Description

Become a Senior Manager, Building Electrification Codes & Standards at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role, you will oversee the Codes & Standards and Building Electrification (BE) with a focus on building energy codes and appliance standards, and related policy development that supports attaining the state’s decarbonization goals in the built environment. By 2045, 70% of space and water heating throughout California needs to be produced with electric heat pumps if we are to meet our climate change targets. You will be responsible for developing strategies that will help achieve 16 million metric tons (MMT) of greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement from the electrification of space and water heating by 2030, and another 30 MMT by 2045. These goals maintain California’s leadership in addressing climate challenge. Through SCE’s Pathway 2045, we will support the state in achieving these goals.

A day in the life-Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Policy analysis and assessment relevant to BE across proceedings, rulemakings, and proposed legislation.

  • Strategic building codes & standards (Title 24 and Title 20) and reach code development and implementation for new and existing buildings consistent with the California Energy Commission’s objectives.

  • Education and outreach of new codes, BE design practices, and applicable technology

  • GHG performance metric integration and Energy Use Intensity (EUI) database development.

  • Market and technology assessment and program development and implementation.

  • Collaboration with Transmission and Distribution (T&D) to continuously assess readiness of distribution design standards for building electrification; and to understand grid impacts of electrification.

  • Strategy, planning, and coordination across all Codes & Standards subprograms, and internal and external stakeholder organizations.

  • Code Compliance Improvement.

  • Coordination with existing pilots/programs across SCE portfolio of programs.

  • Builder and supply chain engagement strategy.


The essentials

  • Five or more years of experience supervising, managing or leading cross functional teams.

  • Three years of experience working in a sustainability-related field (policy or practice), building science, engineering or demand-side management.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher related/applicable discipline.

  • Master’s degree.

  • PMP certification

  • LEED Certification.

  • Building modeling experience.

  • Leadership and people management experience.

  • Experience in policy development (regulatory policy, local, state, federal).

  • Work Mode: When a return-to-office date has been determined, this position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.
