Job Description

This position will be a General Accounting, Senior Manager [HYBRID] in the Corporate Accounting group within the Finance organization. The successful candidate will lead the cross-functional financial close process and will be responsible for accounting, reconciliations, reporting and analyses for a variety of critical areas, including (but not limited to) employee pensions and post-retirement benefits, stock-based compensation, accounting accruals, and lease accounting. In addition, the Senior Accounting Manager will design, handle and implement accounting policies, new processes and process improvements that have significant financial and regulatory implications.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Leads monthly closings. Serves as the close captain across the company for monthly and quarterly closes. Analyzes results and validates financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. Responsible for certain financial reporting deliverables that are incorporated in external filings. Monitors actual performance against budget and presents results to senior management. Applies technical expertise including knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) rules and internal accounting structures and systems to financial transactions and reporting processes. Tracks and evaluates emerging accounting and reporting issues. Develops, implements and completes control procedures to ensure compliance with all requirements.

  • Partner with IT during close process to ensure timely, complete and accurate financials.

  • Support a centralized effort within the organization to identify, assess, and prioritize process and technology improvements for the close and related accounting processes.

  • Lead and guide a team of approximately 8 employees, providing leadership, responsible for setting goals, performance management, training and mentorship.

The Essentials

  • Five or more years of experience supervising a team of direct reports and/or project management.

  • Five years of accounting, auditing, finance, or related experience

  • Experience interpreting and applying GAAP to complex accounting transactions.

The Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in accounting or related field.

  • Certified Public Accountant (active or inactive).

  • Experience in a public accounting firm and/or regulated utility.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate accounting issues and business processes to peers, clients, management, and other organizations.

  • Experience managing or supervising accounting, finance, tax or regulatory functions.

  • Experience with accounting for complex employee benefit programs.

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
