Job Description Join the Clean Energy Revolution

Become an Environmental Principal Manager at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this senior leadership role, you will lead a skilled team consisting of senior managers, program managers, and professional staff. The team will implement environmental compliance and risk management strategies through development of environmental programs, policies, procedures, and a comprehensive environmental management system that helps ensure company-wide compliance with SCE’s Environmental Policy and Federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.

This team is responsible for developing and implementing controls to help ensure compliance with established programs, monitoring effectiveness of controls, and continuously improving performance. Environmental compliance programs include biological and cultural resource protection, water quality, air quality, industrial storm water, drinking water, and hazardous waste. The team also supports California Environmental Quality Act and National Environmental Policy Act of electric utility construction and maintenance projects, and issues environmental requirements applicable to each project. This team prepares environmental standards and documentation, training curricula, and communications needed to maintain the environmental management system and integrate environmental compliance controls into operations.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Provide strategic direction to help ensure company-wide environmental compliance through implementation of an environmental management system.

  • Establish and deliver on performance expectations, metrics and goals aligned with company objectives, policies, and procedures.

  • Assess program metrics and adjust to improve performance and reduce compliance risks.

  • Collaborate with operational colleagues to resolve environmental regulatory challenges associated with construction and maintenance projects.

  • Lead, train and develop professional environmental staff by providing timely feedback, coaching and support.

  • Manage budget to meet strategic objectives and operational needs.

  • Promote the company’s safety culture to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Demonstrate our company values through decisions and actions.

The essentials

  • Ten or more years of experience managing environmental programs.

  • Seven or more years of experience managing/supervising an organization/unit.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following\: environmental science, environmental studies, urban and regional planning, sustainability, biology, archaeology, geology, or related environmental disciplines.

  • Master’s Degree in environmental related disciplines or business administration.

  • Fifteen or more years of experience leading environmental programs.

  • Proven experience in working with local, state, and Federal environmental and land management agencies.

  • Ability to achieve results through leading leaders and handling multiple organizations, projects, and initiatives

  • Continuous improvement attitude and collaborative work ethic.

  • Energy industry experience.

  • Excellent communication skills, teambuilding, mentoring and interpersonal skills.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
