North Point Defense Machinist in Rome, New York

North Point Defense (NPD) is seeking an experienced CNC and Laser Machinist to join its team in Rome, NY. In addition to Machine Operation (including CNC Machine, Laser Engraver, Drill Press, etc.), this position will be responsible for overseeing the machine shop’s daily workflow optimization, as well as having accountability for safety compliance, planning and quality control of the small machine shop. The position will require the use of independent judgement in resolving issues and making recommendations and will serve as the subject matter expert. This position will spend time both performing individual tasks, and leading the machine shop.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Set up the machine lens and adjust the instrument between each project

  • Select and set up lenses based on material type and thickness

  • Load programs

  • Set machine parameters and proper fixtures

  • Perform typical laser cutting operations

  • Select proper cutting programs, and proper fixtures

  • Establish proper stop location, adjust laser beam focal point

  • Perform prescribed maintenance as required

  • Perform all dimensional inspections

  • Take inventory of all project products

  • Experience with design creation and editing software for engraving is preferred

  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience Requirements:

5 + years of machinist experience. CNC machine experience a must. Laser engraver experience a must

Knowledge of basic machine shop practices

Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings

Must be current and well-versed in machine safety operations

Other Requirements:

Ability to independently lift 25 lbs.

Must be physically capable of bending, lifting, squatting, twisting, overhead reaching, standing for up to 8 hours, climbing stairs

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Must be willing to travel 4-6 times per year, for up to two weeks at a time.

Salary: $30 to $40 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
